Every Waking Moment by Chris Fabry- Not To Be Missed!

God is always at the center of every good thing. Treha, an extraordinary girl, is gifted with a most unusual way of relating to others. Her work centers around Desert Gardens, a nursing center, and its elderly residents. Miriam watches as her life slips by, a mixture of redundancy and sameness, she longs for purpose, and reason. When Miriam recognizes Treha and what she can do for the facility and its residents, she encourages her to make full use of her potential. When Treha's life changes abruptly uncertainty lingers in the background. A very creative and original read with connectable and interesting characters, believable scenery, smooth flowing and progressive plot that will cause the reader to hang onto every word and promises to keep them reading long into the night. This is a what if.. kind of novel that men and women would enjoy. I found it to be very hard to put down with an overall inspiring message. I was entertained by this faith challenging novel and will highly recommend it to others. Very well written! I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers for this blog tour for my review. Author Bio

Visit his Web site at www.chrisfabry.com. Author Q & A; A Chris Fabry on Every Waking Moment 1. What was your inspiration for this book, Every Waking Moment? The question at the center of this story is “If this is as good as it gets, am I okay with life?” I find this is a universal question that hits at the heart of our outlook on life and our belief in God. The other question it raises is this: If you could bring someone back from dementia or Alzheimer’s and have a conversation, what would you ask? What would you say to that person? 2. Tell me about your main character Treha Langsam. Was this character based upon anyone in particular? She was loosely based on my own children and what they’ve gone through the past five years. This is probably my most personal story to date. We were exposed to toxic mold. Most people think you can only get a rash or have respiratory damage, but it can attack the brain. Treha’s symptoms are similar to what I’ve seen in them and others who have been exposed. 3. What lessons or truths will your readers find in the pages of this novel? I love the fact that God doesn’t look at the exterior; he looks at the heart. As humans, we have a tendency to judge on first impressions, but we miss so much by doing that. Those who are disabled, those who have some kind of struggle in life, those who are older—all are lumped into a category, and this is such a disservice to them and us. 4. How do you expect Treha’s story to resonate with your readers? I think everyone feels a bit like Treha. She is the little engine that could, even if she isn’t given a chance. And it only takes one person giving someone else a chance. I’m hoping readers will give someone a chance—or maybe let someone else give them a chance. 5. As a writer, what did you particularly enjoy about crafting this story? I loved getting to know Treha better because she’s so mysterious to everyone around her. She’s also a bit scary. To crawl into her skin and walk around and see what she sees is a heartbreaking, life-affirming journey. I also liked the discovery that came with other characters who encounter Treha and see how she changes their lives. 6. What is your hope for this story? How would you like it to impact readers? My hope is that this force of nature, Treha, would empower readers to believe the truth about themselves and others. In Christ, you are stronger than you think you are. With God, you can do anything he calls you to do. 7. How has this novel helped you to grow as a storyteller? Trying to tell a complex story in a simple way is always difficult, and people’s lives are hugely complex. Trying to uncover the truth about Treha—why she is the way she is and where she might be able to go from here—helped me as a human being as well as a writer. 8. Your novels typically touch on a relevant and current topic in our culture. What topics do you weave into this novel? One thread running deeply through this story is the reliance we have on drugs. It’s much easier to take a pill than to make a lifestyle change. And this is affecting individuals, families, and our culture. It also means a great deal of money to institutions, so in tackling this, I know I’m not going to make friends in the pharmaceutical industry. I’m grateful for drugs—my son wouldn’t be alive today without insulin. But every positive thing can have a negative side as well. 9. What big questions will this novel get your reader thinking about? What is your backstory? What is the worth of an individual? Old, young, disabled, unsuccessful . . . several characters are faced with questions of their own worth as well as how they treat others. I’ve always heard that your faith is tested by how you treat someone who can’t do anything for you. This story will get you thinking about some of those deep issues of the heart. 10. How do you manage your time with such a full life, including a writing career, a radio career, and a large family? Everyone has the same amount of time each day. We simply make choices about what we invest in. Hence, I spend less time watching television than I used to. That’s a huge time waster. I get up earlier and go to bed earlier. And when you begin your day centered on God’s Word and ask him what your priorities should be, things generally fall into place. I haven’t arrived at that balance, but I’m struggling as well as I can. http://www.tyndale.com/x_products/videos.php?flv=Not-in-Heart.flv http://www.tyndale.com/x_products/videos.php?flv=Not-in-Heart.flv

Road Trip to Redemption by Brad Mathias- Recommended!

A secret involving one of the authors children shakes the family and brings them to reality. As a result of this discovery the author devises a cross country family adventure complete with roadblocks, breathtaking scenery, and challenges unseemingly setting the stage for connection, discovery and faith. I was able to connect to the characters personalities very quickly as the author showed his readers the faith and core of each member of his family including himself. Differing and interesting journal entries by his wife and children show how each perceives their experiences in fright, calm, and becoming in touch with nature, self and each other.

The book offers much for each reader promising interesting and engaging storyline for the adventurer in us all. Road Trip to Redemption was inspiring yielding hope to those who suffer from family troubles, those with lost faith or those who read biographies. I was entertained by this faith challenging read and will recommend this book to others. I received a complimentary copy from Tyndale House Publishers for my review.

A Season of Mysteries by Rusty Whitener- My Review

In the summer of 1976 Richard and his close friends experience life in a way that no one has been able to forget. Discussions and discoveries pertaining to the unknown and supernatural surface leaving mystery at the forefront. Richard, at a mid point in his life, find his thoughts and reminiscing carry him back to his youth, of baseball, boy scouts, friendship, faith and fun.

A coming of age story where forces of darkness and evil are introduced. This book was a strange yet creative read that reintroduced the characters from A Season of Miracles and adds an element of more imagination. This could possibly be a stand alone novel although it is the second book in a series. Character development was excellent and scenery was highly descriptive. At times however, the storyline drug in several places and the plot shifted slightly. I found the overall message inspiring and faith challenging. One Glorious Ambition by Jane Kirkpatrick- Interesting!

One Glorious Ambition: The Compassionate Crusade of Dorothea Dix, a Novel

Dorothea boards with relatives while in search of her Grandmother. She is eager to keep her family together (she and her brothers) while filling her earlier days writing and acquiring students to teach, welcoming the window to her true purpose in life. With reoccurant illness to battle she became a voice for the mentally challenged, those suffering behind the cold metal of confining bars. Her contributions to their welfare would be essential in bringing about later change to the conditions they endured.

Relive earlier days of torment and suffering through the well researched and written story of a gifted author. Character development was strong and dialogue reminiscent of the time period.
I was not familiar with Dorothea's pilgrimage when I embarked in the reading of her story, but I now have a clear understanding of the challenges and obstacles she faced. I gained a desire to research more of her life from this book. Although the book drug a little bit in the beginning, picked up towards the middle and remained so until finish creating a memorable and fabulous ending. I did enjoy this book although The Scent of Lilacs, an earlier work of Ms. Kirkpatrick I enjoyed more. I can recommend this book to others especially to those who enjoy historical reads. I received an complimentary ARC copy from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Group for my review.

The initial fee varies in each state and will be used for the materials to conduct classes, a test that is given at the end of the program and the general knowledge which will be obtained. The hours involved that you must clock to earn the Master Gardener title after successful completion of the classes and passing the written test is set by each state or county. Approved sites for working varies by each location. Renewal hours are new each year and most programs offer their members newsletters and/or email communication along with monthly meetings. I have enjoyed this program immensely and am able to help gardeners with their challenges by answering questions and applying general knowledge in areas ie: landscaping, weed control, when to plant and harvest and so many others. I also participate in the upkeep and planting of public gardens and displays, and learn on a continual basis through advanced training. I have met some fantastic people who share in the love of gardening as I do and there is always something "fun" to talk about. Check out your local program and become involved!

A bit of competition stirs the heart.

Lucy's family has long been in the candy making business. Changes are sought to be made due to the declining health of her father.

When Lucy and Charlie meet the results are less than favorable. In constant odds with each other each try to make a success of their creations in the business world. Will they create a common bond or will they remain less than friends?

Hardship, Competition, Romance and Secrets come together to create a read that offers a unique topic, candy. Smooth flowing plot, easy to follow dialogue, impeccable scenery and wholesome and lovable characters creates a read that offers no dull or dragging parts. Although I rolled my eyes from time to time at Lucy's insecurities, I loved Charlie's character who seemed more down to earth, genuine and realistic. I was entertained and will recommend this book to others. I received a complimentary copy from Bethany House Publishers for my review

Angelguard by Ian Acheson- Great Series Introduction!

Jacket Image

In the war of good vs evil what is the true worth of one soul?

Danger and chaos taken the lives of many, and others are left to piece together the reasoning behind the bizarre attacks. Working behind the scenes lie the efforts of those from the spirit world. The unseen battle between the fallen and unfallen has begun and the fate of the world is uncertain.
Jack widower who lost his wife and two eldest children during a terrorist attack is carried into a dangerous and important vision to stop another attack. As time runs rapidly to a close lives grow increasingly short. Will Jack be able to abort impending doom in time or will more death be a reality?

Demonic and angelic spirit world, high suspense, espionage, danger and action come together to form a highly imaginative and creative read that started out on a high note and remained so throughout the novel. Although in the beginning it was hard to get to know the characters in depth due to storyline shifting abruptly and the introduction of many characters as the story progressed the book became impossible to put down and all seems to come together in unison. Scenery was very descriptive and I could picture myself within the storyline witnessing the action. A great first novel and I look forward to reading the next in the series! I received a complimentary copy from Lion Hudson and Kregel Publications for this blog tour and my review.

  1. The Dance

Sometimes change is not always evident.

Her husband Jim is a workaholic businessman and owner of Anderson Development obsessed with the accumulation of wealth does not know how to deal with Marilyn's new way of life. He tries to relate but finds himself further from the truth.
Can there be a happy ending to the issues that this couple face when so many obstacles shorten the horizon?

Reality, bitterness, love, heartbreak and forgiveness take center stage in this incredible and unforgettable read. I finished this book very quickly and could recognize the lives of others I know within the pages. This impossible to put down novel offers realistic and challenging progressive driven plot, familiar down to earth and easy to relate to characters who seem as friends, along with picturesque scenery offers absolutely no dull or dragging parts. Could be a book that women as well as men would enjoy. I was entertained by this novel and will be one I will recommend to others. I received a complimentary copy from Revell Publishers for this blog tour for my review.

Sinners and the Sea by Rebecca Kanner- Challenging to Get Through

Sinners and the Sea

The girl who has no name is scorned with the mark from birth and believed to be a curse derived from evil. Her father Eben was a wall of protection and trust. When Noah came to take her as his wife and bring her to his camp what lied in wait for her was challenging at the least. The people who greeted her were vile and very wicked and their taunts and hatred were hard to bear. When the flood came Noah and his wife and their sons embarked on a great journey that will take them away from all that they know.

Violence, Hatred and Heartbreak were woven throughout the novel. I do have mixed thoughts regarding this book the novel, although creative fiction which does have actual passages from Genesis with descriptive scenery, is far off from the real bible story and parts of it I would label as science fiction.
Although this book is published by a Christian publisher and has Biblical characters, to me, Sinners and the Sea is not Christian fiction. A novel that is only suited for an adult is hard to get through at times, laced with graphic sexual content along with much blood and great darkness and a few words of profanity made me quite uncomfortable when reading it. I can say that the last few chapters made up for much hence my 2 star rating for effort. I can recommend it for those who enjoy secular fiction but not for those who enjoy Christian Biblical fiction. Thanks to Howard Publishers and Netgalley for the ARC for my review.

A Cast of Shadows by Patrick W Carr- Excellent!

Cover Art

Errol, an apprentice, yet but a boy, is enroute to Martin Pater to deliver an important message. He is met by many dangerous obstacles including a man in black. At the tender age of 14 he is consumed by the desire for strong drink while he harbors bitter memories of his childhood. Errol is about to fight the battle of darkness in the quest of knowledge and strength against those who look for weakness. Will success find an end or will he be stopped from accomplishment?

A tale of medieval fantasy, battles and loyalty from a time not of our own. Rich with descriptive scenery, well developed and interesting characters and engaging easy to follow dialogue. I read this book in sections, due to the lengthiness, and many times I found that when reading I could picture myself within the pages witnessing the action first hand! Plot progressed slowly as high action took place, while welcoming the next book in the series. I was entertained by this faith challenging read and will highly recommend it to others especially those who enjoy a creative fantasy! Excellent first novel solid 4 Stars! I received a complimentary copy from Bethany House Publishers for my review.

Home Run by Travis Thrasher- Recommended!!!

For a single moment locked in the present, the past seems to always follow unceasingly.

Cory Brand and his brother Clay suffer a challenging childhood. Cory is plagued by the harsh memories of an abusive father. Baseball has always been a love/hate relationship for him. When his present confronts his past Cory struggles with his life, searching for lost understanding, failing hope, and impossible dreams.

Action, baseball, reality, bitterness and understanding team together perfectly to bring a novel that will excite and satisfy readers. A progressive moving book that comes full circle and expertly blends present life of the well formed, realistic and interesting characters with frequent shifts to the past promising no broken or dull parts. I had a very hard time putting this book down as I was drawn into the storyline from the beginning. I felt as if I were at the scene getting to know the characters personalities and watching baseball at its best! Smooth flowing engaging plot, easy to follow dialogue and realistic colorful scenery make this an unforgettable novel. I was challenged in my faith and entertained and will recommend this book to others. 5 Stars! Thanks to David C Cook Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC for my review.

Are you searching for a way to protect yourself and others from Satan's grip? This powerful book contains so many useful points and thought provoking levels of information. Contains prayers and exercises to confront Satan's lies, views of the spirit world in Paul's time and in our time, from the book of Ephesians a thorough explanation of each part of God's armor and so much more.

A true treasure trove of a book that addresses anything and everything pertaining to combating evil using the Armor of God, a set of tools all believers are given using scripture to back that up. A must have book for the permanent library and one that can be helpful to all and especially for those with questions concerning the identification and expelling of demons in our lives. Brings prayer to a whole other level. Invaluable for church leaders and every believer as well. A well written and highly recommended volume that challenged my faith. 5 Stars! All in Good Time by Maureen Lang- Kept Me Interested

Does the heart judge what the eyes cannot see?

Henry Hawkins had a questionable career in his younger days. His current position as a banker has him thinking much on the outcome of his future, a pale existance of a life in need of revamping.

Dessa Caldwell is in search of a loan to benefit Pierson House, a home for women, is keenly aware of the many obstacles that would deter her from her plans.
When she applies for a loan at Henry's bank their initial meeting is less than memorable.
A shared secret, a desire for success and the constant ache of the heart bring two unlikely people together for one important mission. Will fortune be gained in time or will an obstacle prove to be a consequence?

Hope, Romance and Fate collide together to form an easy flowing novel just right for a reader yearning for a lite romance with a bit of suspense. Characters were well developed, scenery was fitting and realistic for the storyline and plot offered very few dull and dragging parts. Although part of a series All in Good Time can be read as a stand alone book. I was entertained by this faith challenging and inspiring book and would recommend it to others. 4 Stars.
I received a complimentary copy from Tyndale House Publishers for my review.

Fortress of Mist by Sigmund Brouwer- A Medieval Masterpiece!

Fortress of Mist, Merlin's Immortals Series #2 -
        By: Sigmund Brouwer

Symbols are but secrets within the confines of darkness.

Thomas through loyalty with the Earl of York longs to fulfill his destiny to conquer the well armed and manned Scottish Army but is plagued by many questions to the riddles placed before him. With time growing short by each rotation of the day, many lives and hopes depend on Thomas. Will he be able to successfully master his obstacles?

Travel back to the time of 1312, to lands of conquerors, kings and wizards through the imaginative journeys of a master storyteller.
High action and unending adventure, very descriptive storyline and scenery along with multiple twists, turns, and surprises await the reader. This journey is not too quick a read and so as to not miss details I advise the reader to take time as I did absorbing the engaging and engrossing plot. This book picks up where the Orphan King left off and though part of a series could possibly be a stand alone novel but will make more sense when read in succession with the previous one. The storyline flowed well and from the beginning of reading I found I could not put it down. The characters were well developed and interesting and I felt as if I were there witnessing history. Extremely well written and creative and I will highly recommend this book to others. 5 Stars!!! I received a free copy of this book from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishers for my review.

Moonlight Masquerade by Ruth Axtell- My Review

Cover Art

Within a time of unrest and disguise, the heart unfolds.

Rees, butler is on assignment to discover the history of this employer Lady Celine, who is thought to be a spy for the French. Celine has many tasks to accomplish, whether it be the giving of dinner parties, the care of an aging relative, or perhaps missions of a different nature, she finds that life indeed is anything but monotonous.
Her daily interactions lead to questions unanswered and Rees is sure that he will soon have the answers he seeks, or will he?
Within the scope of a broader lens can romance be sought after in the most unexpected of times?

Romance, Action, Danger and Suspense grace the pages of this regency novel. Characters were well developed, I loved Rees' character, so real and gentlemanly! Plot was smooth flowing although I did find that it drug very briefly in a few places, dialogue was believable and easy to follow and scenery was captivating. Overall a great read and I enjoyed this compelling and faith challenging novel and will recommend it to others and especially to those who love a regency romance with action ingrained within the storyline. I received a complimentary copy from Revell Publishing for this blog tour for my review.
